The Educational Journey and Personal Background of Dasu Suresh Kumar-

Dasu Suresh Kumar, born on January 7th, 1979, is the son of Dasu Raghu Ram and the late Shri Rama Devi.  In his pursuit of education, he attained a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications (BCA), laying the groundwork for his academic journey. Subsequently, he expanded his horizons by completing a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), equipping himself with the knowledge and skills necessary for leadership roles in the corporate world. Further enhancing his educational qualifications, Mr Dasu Suresh obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Mr Dasu Suresh’s educational journey reflects a multifaceted approach towards personal growth and professional excellence. Each milestone achieved, from completing BCA to obtaining an MBA and LLB, underscores his dedication to acquiring diverse skill sets and knowledge bases. Professional Endeavors and Advocacy for Regional Causes-

From 2004 to 2011, Mr Dasu Suresh navigated through esteemed positions in Global IT management at prominent firms, including Oracle, SAP, and Info-Tech Enterprise, where he honed his skills in strategic business consulting. Transitioning from the corporate sphere to grassroots activism from 2011 to 2013, Mr  Dasu Suresh supported the Telangana movement. Engaging in physical group discussions and online forums, he actively advocated for the aspirations of the Telangana region, standing in solidarity with activists striving for regional autonomy and socio-political empowerment.

Empowering Communities: The Political Journey of Mr. Dasu Suresh

Early Leadership and Community Initiatives-

From 1998 to 2004, as a Student Leader, Mr Dasu Suresh demonstrated proactive leadership by addressing various challenges students face in collaboration with college authorities. Notably, he played a pivotal role in facilitating the waiver of tuition fees for deserving students, ensuring access to education for those in need. Additionally, he diligently arranged scholarships to alleviate financial burdens and resolved examination-related issues, fostering a conducive academic environment.

Active Participation in Telangana Movement

Dasu Suresh Kumar was a Telangana Activist; during the Telangana Movement, i.e., in 2011-2013, Dasu Suresh Kumar played an active role and fought for the creation of a new state, Telangana, from the pre-existing state of Andhra Pradesh in India.

He has been served conscientiously for the prosperity of the people from the party’s inception to the present day, consistently aspiring for the party’s and society’s advancement and performing desperate service to society and for the goodness of the people.

He participated in many social Programs and was involved in Million March, Bike Rallies, and Dharna’s to form Telangana as a separate State. Dhoom-Dham Event has been set up for the emergence of Telangana state.

In 2013 and 2014, Mr Dasu Suresh embarked on extensive community initiatives in Wardhannapet, exhibiting his commitment to grassroots development. Serving as a convener, he orchestrated door-to-door social welfare campaigns to enhance the overall quality of life in the locality. Through strategic coordination and advocacy, he facilitated the installation of crucial infrastructure, such as drainage systems and electricity connections, laying the groundwork for improved living conditions. Furthermore, his leadership was instrumental in spearheading the “Beautify Colonies and Society” movement, which revitalized eight colonies in Erragattu X Roads (Kits) in Hasanparty Mandal. By effectively representing pressing issues to the Greater Warangal Commissioner, Mr  Dasu Suresh successfully garnered support for vital developmental projects worth over 2.5 crore, encompassing the implementation of modern drainage systems, roads, transformers, power poles, and streetlights.

Advocacy for Marginalized Communities

Transitioning into a pivotal role as the National Working President at BC Welfare Association from 2014 to 2021, Mr  Dasu Suresh directed his efforts towards championing the rights of marginalized communities, mainly focusing on the weavers’ community in Telangana. By establishing the Weavers Development Foundation, he sought to foster unity and collaboration among weavers and the Padmashali Community, aiming to address prevailing challenges and promote sustainable growth.

Undeterred by obstacles, Mr  Dasu Suresh fervently advocated for the empowerment of Other Backward Classes (OBCs), leading impassioned protests, dharnas, and Dheeksha against the perceived discriminatory policies of the Telangana government. Despite facing adversities, his steadfast commitment to social justice remained unwavering, positioning him as a resilient advocate for a fair and equitable society.

Founding BC Rajyadhikara Samithi-

In a landmark initiative, Mr Suresh Dasu, the Founder and President of BC Rajyadhikara Samithi, was founded in August 2021. To politically empower marginalized sections and bridge socio-economic disparities, the Samithi endeavours to harness the inherent potential of OBCs for national development through a multifaceted approach encompassing field programs and accomplishments across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

BC Rajyadhikara Samithi has emerged as a proactive platform, spearheading various initiatives such as organizing meetings, cadre camps, training sessions, and round table discussions. Actively engaging in electoral processes on behalf of OBCs, the organization advocates for crucial reforms, including political reservations, caste census, and special quotas for OBC women. Moreover, it seeks to implement comprehensive policies and initiatives to foster the holistic welfare and empowerment of OBCs, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.

Leadership in Weavers’ Advocacy-

As the Chairman of the National Weavers United Joint Action Committee, Dasu Suresh has exhibited remarkable leadership in advocating for the rights and welfare of weavers across the nation. With a deep-rooted commitment to the weaving community, he has tirelessly championed their cause, spearheading initiatives to address their challenges. Through strategic coordination and collaboration, he has mobilized efforts to amplify the voices of weavers, advocating for essential support and policy reforms to improve their livelihoods. Advocacy Initiatives by Mr. Dasu Suresh-

Advocacy for Handloom Workers’ Rights

In 2019, Mr Dasu Suresh led a protest at Jantar Mantar to highlight the challenges faced by hand loom workers. The event drew participation from 16 MPs across various political affiliations and garnered attention from national leaders. Through strategic media coverage and social media engagement, the issues faced by hand loom workers were effectively communicated to the public, with a unanimous agreement to persist until a resolution was achieved.

Campaigning for Victims’ Rights

Mr  Dasu Suresh brought attention to the plight of families affected by suicides in Telangana, highlighting the government’s failure to provide adequate support. His efforts led to the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission, which issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister of Telangana, demanding explanations for the lack of assistance to the affected families.

Combatting Fake Handloom Products

Aiming to address the prevalence of fake hand loom silk sarees and products in Telangana’s major shopping malls, Mr Dasu Suresh initiated a movement to safeguard the interests of both weavers and consumers. Through extensive media coverage and legal action, including filing cases against major retailers and reporting the issue to the Union Minister for Textiles, Smt. Smriti Irani, significant progress was made in enforcing the Handloom Reservation Act and curbing malpractices.

Empowering Victims’ Voices

Mr Dasu Suresh facilitated a unique campaign for dependents of weavers who had died by suicide, providing them with a platform to voice their challenges to government authorities. This initiative garnered national and Telangana media attention, culminating in a protest outside the official residence of Telangana’s Chief Minister in Delhi. Despite facing arrest and detention, Mr  Dasu Suresh remained steadfast in his commitment to advocating for the rights of vulnerable communities.

Championing BC Rights

Through platforms such as round table meetings, protests, and media engagements, Mr Dasu Suresh tirelessly advocated for the rights of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in areas including education, employment, and political representation. His extensive outreach efforts, including writing articles and participating in live TV shows, aimed to empower OBCs nationally and raise awareness about their fundamental rights.

COVID-19 Relief Efforts

A) Amidst the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Dasu Suresh took proactive steps to support vulnerable communities, mainly handicraft artisans. He spearheaded the creation of COVID Essentials kits containing 18 types of groceries and vegetables, benefiting 2000 families, including barbers, dhobis, fishermen, shepherds, weavers, goldsmiths, and handicrafts men. 

B)  Additionally, health camps were conducted in Erstwhile Warangal, Karimnagar, and Medak districts, accompanied by a 1000KM bike rally to raise awareness about COVID-19 among villagers. 

C) In collaboration with Dr Parikipandla Ashok, preventive homeopathy medicine was distributed to the poor from April to December 2020, furthering efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

Empowerment of Dalit Communities

After personally assessing the challenges faced by Dalits, Mr Dasu Suresh organized and mobilized 200 small groups, each comprising 20 members, to facilitate access to financial empowerment opportunities such as KVIB, KVIC, and MUDRA loans.

Advocacy and Mobilization in Municipal Elections

In the recent Greater Warangal municipal corporation elections of 2021, Mr Dasu Suresh championed the cause of Dalits and poor BCs, shedding light on the unfulfilled promises of the Telangana government (TRS). Through extensive outreach efforts, including electronic media campaigns and major channel presentations, the issues faced by Warangal’s BCs and Dalits were highlighted, resulting in a significant decline of 18 per cent in the ruling party’s vote share. This underscores the importance of mobilizing weaker sections and amplifying their voices in the political landscape.

Initiatives and Achievements

Advocacy for Weavers’ Welfare

• Mr Dasu Suresh undertook a significant advocacy effort by presenting the plight of weavers’ suicide victims’ dependents to Honourable Union Minister Mr Kishan Reddy. Recognizing the situation’s urgency, Mr Dasu Suresh appealed for essential support such as housing, health cards, and pensions for the affected families. This proactive approach resulted in the Minister’s intervention, prompting a directive to the Telangana Chief Secretary to ensure necessary arrangements for the welfare of the weavers’ families.

Insurance Scheme for Farmers and Weavers

• Witnessing the distressing trend of suicides among farmers and weavers following Telangana’s formation, Mr Dasu Suresh embarked on a determined mission to implement the 5 Lakh Group Free Insurance scheme. Collaborating closely with LIC of India, he orchestrated the meticulous collection of details of 10,000 weavers through multiple camps organized across various villages over an exhaustive eight-month period. This data formed the foundation for issuing a comprehensive Group Insurance proposal by LIC. Subsequently, the Telangana Chief Minister, KCR, announced its implementation, extending its benefits to 65 lakh farmers and 2 lakh weavers. Remarkably, within a week of the scheme’s launch, 45,000 farmer families received 5 lakh rupees in Insurance claims, underscoring the immediate impact of Mr Dasu Suresh’s advocacy.

Combatting Malpractices and Raising Awareness

• Mr Dasu Suresh’s vigilance extended to the rampant malpractices in shopping malls, particularly concerning selling fake hand loom products. Initiating a robust campaign, he staged protests and escalated the issue to the attention of key stakeholders, including the Union Textile Minister and Hand looms Commissioner. Several raids were conducted as a direct consequence of his advocacy, effectively curbing malpractices. Furthermore, Mr Dasu Suresh was pivotal in heightening awareness about the Handloom mark and quality standards among consumers and government officials.

Technology-Enabled Mobilization

• Recognizing the transformative potential of technology in grassroots mobilization, Mr Dasu Suresh harnessed digital platforms to organize cadres from the weavers, BCs, and Dalit communities. He facilitated seamless communication by developing a user-friendly web-based and mobile application, reaching an impressive audience of up to 2 lakh individuals. This innovative approach ensured the dissemination of crucial information regarding ongoing developments and served as a powerful tool for mobilizing participation in protests and programs aimed at advocating for the rights of marginalized communities.

• Mr Dasu Suresh’s unwavering commitment and impactful service garnered widespread recognition and appreciation from various quarters. He received multiple accolades from state and central governments and numerous governmental and non-governmental organisations. The felicitation the Government of India extended to him on National Handloom Day in 2018 is a testament to his exceptional contributions to the Handloom Weavers community.
