Pratap Chandra Sarangi is the current Union Minister of State in the Government of India for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Pratap is the Member of Parliament, 17th Lok Sabha from Balasore Constituency. He is a Politician from Balasore, Odisha, and serves as a National Executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Early life and education:

Pratap Chandra Sarangi was born on 4 January 1955 to Late Gobinda Chandra Sarangi & Siddheswari Sarangi in the village of Gopinathpur, Nilagiri, Balasore, Odisha. He completed his bachelor’s of Art(B.A) degree at Fakir Mohan College, Balasore under Utkal university in 1975.

Since his childhood, Sarangi was a spiritual seeker. He wanted to become a monk of the Ramakrishna Math. He made several visits to Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Order in Howrah, West Bengal. The monks of the Math discussed with Sarangi about his desire and examined his biodata. They came to know that Sarangi’s widowed mother was alive. They insisted that he should go back and serve her. After his return to his village, he became involved in various social activities.

Political Career:

Sarangi started his political career as the President of Akhila Bharatiya Amritavanee Seva Pratisthanam(ABVP). He was the President of Nikhilotkal Samskruta Mahamandalam and All Odisha Sanskrit College teachers Association. He was the State President of Bajrang Dal, Odisha.

He was the Joint General Secretary of VHP Odisha State Unit. He was the Working President of hreeramajanmabhumi Japa yoga Samiti from VHP, Odisha. He selected as a General Secretary of Akhil Bharat Gobansha Rakshyana Sambardhan Parishad(ABVP), Odisha.

Pratap was the Founder Secretary of the Vivekananda Study Circle, Nilgiri. He was elected as a Vice-President of BJP Odisha. He was the National Executive Member of BJP, Odisha.

Initially, Sarangi served as a District level Volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) and also worked for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal. He opened schools for the poor called Samar Kara Kendra, under the Gana Shiksha Mandir Yojana in tribal villages in Balasore and Mayurbhanj District also spending the major portion of his MLA pension to support the education of poor children in his area.

Later Pratap Chandra joined the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). In 2004, Pratab elected as an MLA from Odisha Legislative Assembly, Nilagiri Constituency.

From 2004-2009, He appointed as a Member of the House Committee on Cooperatives and Committee on Members’ Amenities. He was selected as a Member of the Committee on Petitions. He elected as a Member of the Standing Committee (IV) on School And Mass Education, Higher Education, Sports And Youth Service, Science, And Technology, Information Technology. Pratap was the Member of the House Committee on Cyclone/Flood and Public Account Committee

In 2009, Pratab elected as an MLA from Odisha Legislative Assembly, Nilagiri Constituency of BJP. From 2009-2014, Pratap was the Member of the House Committee on Linguistic Minorities and was the Member of the Committee on Members’ Amenities.
He was the Member of the Committee on Petitions and was the Member of Standing Committee (IV) on School And Mass Education, Higher Education, Sports And Youth Service, Science And Technology, Information Techno.

His main part of his life is as a Head Clerk in Nilgiri College, Nilgiri, Balasore, Odisha. He also contested in the 2014 Indian general election from Balasore, Lok Sabha constituency as a BJP candidate, which he lost.

He contested again in the 2019 Indian general election from Balasore, Lok Sabha constituency as a BJP candidate, in which he defeated the Biju Janata Dal candidate and sitting MP, Rabindra Kumar Jena, by a margin of 12,956 votes.

In May 2019, Sarangi became Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries.

Social And Cultural Activities:

Opened schools, Samskara Kendra in hundreds of tribal villages under Gana Shiksha Mandir Yojana in Balasore and Mayurbhanj district of Odisha; inspired social awareness and campaign against liquor, corruption, social injustice, and atrocities against vulnerable communities; provided medical assistance to poor and needy patients; delivered motivational talks to students in educational institutions and participated in spiritual debates and discourses

Locals and students from the Bhandaripokhari area are crossing the national highway at Dahlia Chowk to take part in daily activities.
