Nandi Yellaiah

MP, Congress, Nagarkurnool, Telangana.

Nandi Yellaiah was the MP(Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha) of Congress in Nagarkurnool constituency of Telangana. He was born on 01-07-1942 to Late Nandi Nagaiah & Narasamma in Musheerabad, Hyderabad. He completed his Intermediate from Hindi Visharad Conducted by Hindi Prachar Sabha Hyderabad. He finished his Matriculation. He is a six-term member of Lok sabha.

Yellaiah started his political journey with the Congress Party and he was the Member. In 1964, He was elected to Municipal Corporation in Hyderabad and he was Chairman of the Slum Improvement Committee.

He was elected as a Chairman of the Planning and Development Committee of Congress in Hyderabad. From 1969-1972, He was the Secretary of the City Depressed Class League.

In 1977, He was the General Secretary and Convenor, Office Affairs Cell, City Congress(I) Committee in Hyderabad. In 1979, Yellaiah was elected as an MP to the 6th Lok Sabha in Siddipet and he Re-elected as an MP to the 7th Lok Sabha(2nd Term) in 1980.

In 1984, He was the Member of Congress(I) Coordination Committee for Elections of candidates for Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections. In 1989, He was re-elected as an MP to 9th Lok Sabha(3rd term) in Siddipet. From 1989-1990, Member of Consultative Committee and Ministry of Railways.

In 1991, He was re-elected as an MP to 10th Lok Sabha(4th term) of the Congress Party in Siddipet. From 1992-1993, He was a Member of Hindi Salahkar Samiti, Ministry of Power, and a Member of PCC(I). in Andhra Pradesh. He was the Member of AICC and Vice-President of the Andhra Pradesh United Front. From 1992-1996, Member of Committee on Official Language.

From 1993-1994, Member of Standing Committee on Defence. In 1996, He was re-elected as an MP to 11th Lok Sabha(5th term) of the Congress Party in Siddipet. From 2002-2014, Member of Rajya Sabha(Two terms).

From 17 March 2014 – 15 May 2014, Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council. In 2014, He was re-elected as an MP to 16th Lok Sabha(6th term) of the Congress party in Nagarkurnool, Telangana.

Senior Congress leader and eight-time MP Nandi Yellaiah died of a brief illness after being detected positive for Covid-19 in Hyderabad on Saturday 8th August 2020.
