Konkati Shekar is an Indian politician affiliated with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), currently holding the position of Constituency Incharge for Choppadandi in the Rajanna Sircilla District of Telangana.
Early life and Education :
On 24th February 1989, Konkati Shekar was born to Mr. Konakati Parushuramulu and Konkati Laxmi in the village of Deshaipalli in the Boinpally mandal of the Rajanna Sircilla District in the state of Telangana.
His educational journey includes completing his SSC from APSWRS High School in Rukmapur in 2004 and his board of intermediate from Ram Reddy Junior College in Karimnagar in 2007.
In 2013, he graduated from BZCA College with a BSc degree and further pursued his post-graduation in MSC Botany at Sri Chaitanya Degree PG College in Karimnagar. Additionally, he completed his B.Ed. from Povlev College.
Konkati Shekhar’s Political Journey:
In the Year 2007: Konkati Shekar was appointed as the President of the Karimnagar Student Federation (MSF), where he was tasked with overseeing various activities and responsibilities, including organising protests, participating in Rail Roko, and engaging in assembly meetings.
In the Year 2008: Konkati Shekar was appointed as the District President of the SC/ST Students’ Union, where he took on the responsibility of addressing scholarship-related issues. He actively led protests and demonstrations, including several instances of gathering at the Collector’s office, staging sit-ins, and organising rallies, all in pursuit of better facilities for student management and the construction of dedicated buildings.
In the Year 2009: Konkati Shekar played a pivotal role in the formation of the Telangana Students’ Joint Action Committee (TSJAC). He diligently worked towards aligning various political parties with the common goal of achieving a separate Telangana state. Under the leadership of Pidamarthi Ravi, he served as the Co-Convener for the Ummadi Karimnagar District, contributing significantly to the movement.
His active involvement extended to several areas, including his role in promoting industrial activities in Telangana, being a vocal advocate for student rights, participating in assembly meetings, organising mass rallies like the Million March, coordinating events for the welfare of the general public, leading protests in Delhi in front of the Parliament, engaging in demonstrations, and even taking part in the funeral processions of Andhra leaders. Additionally, he handled numerous legal cases.
Konkati Shekar has been a multifaceted leader, deeply committed to addressing various social and political issues, making significant contributions to the betterment of the Telangana region.
In the Year 2012: Konkati Shekar assumed the role of the State President of the SC/ST Students’ Union. During his tenure, he actively participated in advocating for the rights of SC/ST students and worked towards addressing various issues related to their hostels and mess bills. He also organised several district-wide protest programs, focusing on rectifying grievances and disparities.
In the Year 2013: Konkati Shekar was elected as the District Chairman of TSUJAC (Telangana Students’ Joint Action Committee) in the district of Karimnagar, Telangana. He played an active role in various initiatives aimed at advancing the interests of students in the region and was a prominent figure in local socio-political activities in the Karimnagar district of Telangana, contributing to its development.
In the Year 2014: Konkati Shekar was elected as the State President of the Madiga Students’ Joint Action Committee (JAC), a significant position that reflects his leadership within the organisation. He also took on the role of Chairman of the Swero Network ( Fit India Foundation ) in the Boinpally Mandal, showcasing his active involvement in community and network activities, especially in the sphere of social empowerment and development.
In the Year 2017: Konkati Shekar assumed the role of the State Vice President of the Fit India Foundation as part of his ongoing commitment to physical fitness and wellness promotion. Additionally, he organised and participated in several running events with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle:
- He organised a “Run for Country” program in Karimnagar, where people from all mandals, as well as individuals from countries like the United States, Kuwait, Maldives, and Australia, came together to support runs ranging from 2 kilometres to half marathons. This initiative garnered recognition and appreciation, including a poster release by the then Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu, in acknowledgment of their efforts.
- In Delhi, he released posters with the Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) community to promote running and physical fitness.
- Konkati Shekhar also organised a 10-kilometre run in Siddipet and a 5-kilometre run with 500 participants on the Delhi Ring Road.
- Furthermore, he actively engaged in various statewide running events, including 2.3 and 5-kilometre runs, health camps, and nutrition awareness programs, all aimed at promoting the importance of fitness and overall well-being among the community.
In the Year 2019: Konkati Shekar took on the role of State President of the Fit India Foundation and continued his active involvement in various social programs and initiatives. These included observance and participation in events related to health and societal well-being, such as:
- Blood Donation Drives
- Cancer Awareness Campaigns
- Diabetes Awareness Programs
- Organising programs for the visually impaired
- Observing World Environment Day
- Promoting awareness about cleanliness and hygiene
- Observing “Never Give Up” Day
Notably, Dr. RS Praveen Kumar, an IPS officer with an additional DGP rank, resigned from his position, and Konkati Shekar joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) as part of the BSP (Rajakarunya Samaikya Party) alliance. This political move marked a significant step in his journey as a social and political leader.
From 2021: Konkati Shekar has taken on various responsibilities within the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party), primarily as the Constituency Incharge for Choppadandi constituency. His activities and initiatives have been diverse, aimed at strengthening the BSP’s presence and support base in each village. Some of these activities and programs include:
- Bahujan Rajyadhikara Yatra: A journey conducted across six Mandalas with the aim of achieving victories for the BSP in these areas.
- Formation of Booth Committees: Organizing and establishing committees at the booth level to enhance the party’s grassroots presence.
- Advocating for Public Issues: Addressing and fighting for various public issues, including pension-related concerns and ration distribution.
- Farmer Welfare Programs: Initiating programs to support and uplift farmers, such as organising protests and rallies.
- Community Problem Solving: Working closely with local communities to identify and resolve their specific issues.
- Mandal-level Bicycle Rides: Organising cycling events at the Mandal level to promote health and unity.
- Baroosa Kalpincche Karyakramalu: Implementing programs that provide assurance and support to farmers.
Additionally, Konkati Shekar has actively engaged with the local population, actively participating in activities like cycle rallies and holding open meetings known as “Bahiranga Sabha” (Ranabheri Sabha) in Choppadandi, wherein he interacts and collaborates with people from various walks of life to address their concerns and work towards a better future for the region.
Konkati Shekar and Team’s Compassionate Response During the COVID-19 Pandemic :
- During the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Konkati Shekar and his dedicated team in Boinpally Mandal stepped up to offer crucial assistance to their community. In addition to their ongoing initiatives, they undertook significant relief efforts to alleviate the pandemic’s impact.
- Their remarkable endeavours included the distribution of a substantial 1500 kilograms of rice and essential food items to as many as 23 villages within the Mandal. This outreach was a testament to their commitment to addressing the pressing issue of food insecurity, especially for those who had been severely affected by the pandemic’s economic fallout.
- Furthermore, they extended their support to individuals and families grappling with the challenges posed by COVID-19 in the region. To ensure that these affected individuals had access to their daily necessities, the team provided essentials, including fresh vegetables. This assistance played a pivotal role in ensuring that those affected had a reliable source of nutritious food and essential supplies throughout the pandemic.
- Konkati Shekar and his team’s response during the COVID-19 crisis exemplified their unwavering dedication to the well-being of their fellow community members. Their proactive and compassionate actions underscored the significance of collective action and community solidarity in times of adversity. It serves as a heartening example of how individuals and organisations can come together to provide essential support during moments of crisis.
