Biography of Doddi Komaraiah:

• Doddi Komaraiah, a prominent figure in the Telangana armed struggle and fighting for land and liberation, is revered as an immortal hero. Born on April 3, 1927, in Kadavendi Village, Devaruppula Mandal, Janagama District, Telangana, he hailed from a humble Kuruma shepherd family. Komaraiah played a pivotal role in leading a significant movement and remains a source of pride for the people of Telangana.
• During the rule of the Nizam, the Andhra Mahasabha Communist Association represented a ray of hope for those tired of the oppression inflicted by jagirdars, deshmukhs, landlords, and desh pandes in Telangana villages. Doddi Komaraiah’s elder brother, Doddi Mallaiah, was an active member of the Andhra Mahasabha Committee. Under his influence, Komaraiah recognized the association as the ideal platform to oppose the atrocities perpetrated by the aristocrats. Consequently, he joined the Andhra Mahasabha and fought against the oppressive ruling class.
• One of the prominent oppressors in Kadavendi Village was Janakamma, the mother of Deshmukh Ramachandra Reddy. Her tyrannical behavior struck fear into the hearts of the villagers. As Doddi Mallaiah engaged in numerous conflicts with Janakamma, he became her primary enemy. The people of Kadavendi, who stood against Janakamma, stopped paying taxes, which led to the wrath of Janakamma. In response, the Andhra Mahasabha (Sangham) took action against those who refused to pay taxes, particularly targeting the family of Doddi Mallaiah, who had opposed Janakamma. Komaraiah also became a target of Janakamma’s ire in solidarity with his brother.
• The village community leaders formed a self-defense force comprising 60 volunteers to protect their members. However, on July 4, 1946, a conspiracy was hatched by Deshmukh and Janakamma to hire thugs to kill Mallaiah, Komaraiah, and other community members associated with the Communist Party. As part of the plan, 40 armed men led by Maskeen Ali, a follower of Deshmukh, arrived in Kadavendi Village.
• They began hurling stones at the houses of the activists while using obscenities to insult them. In response, under the leadership of K. Ramachandra Reddy, a key community member, over 200 people joined forces and marched in a rally, chanting slogans against the nobles. In the front row of the procession stood Komaraiah, alongside his elder brother Mallaiah.
• Unbeknownst to the people, private security forces stationed in the school building opposite Dorasani Gadi, under the leadership of Maskeen Ali, opened fire without warning. Tragically, Doddi Mallaiah was struck by bullets in his stomach.
• Witnessing his brother’s injury, Komaraiah bravely threw himself to the ground, proclaiming “Jai” (victory) to the Andhra Mahasabha and the Communist Party. This incident fueled the people’s fury, and they raised their voices in protest, prepared to exact revenge on the mercenaries hired by Dorasani. Sensing the imminent danger, the thugs sought refuge in Dorasani’s house, thus saving their lives.
• Upon hearing the news of Komaraiah’s death, the people from neighboring villages were consumed with rage and flocked to Kadavendi Village, seeking revenge. Komaraiah’s body was laid to rest in Nellutla village. His untimely demise transformed the peaceful peasant movement into an armed revolutionary struggle.
