Karanam Balaram Krishna Murthy

Karanam Balaram Krishna Murthy is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Chirala Constituency, Prakasam Dist. He was born on 31-10-1946 to Venkateshwarlu in Thimmasamudram village of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.

He completed Intermediate Pre-University Course (P.U.C) Andhrapradesh Loyola College, Vijayawada Andhra University year-1965.

He started his political journey with the Indian National Congress Party (INC). A long-timer in the Indian National Congress, he became known for rescuing the then AICC chief Indira Gandhi from a public attack, when she was touring the area in 1977 after a split in the Congress.

She called him her third son. Indira Gandhi fielded him from Addanki as Congress nominee in the 1978 elections, which was his electoral debut. When he was held in lockup on some of the charges, the police were surprised to see the turnout of people visiting him. N. T. Rama Rao who was a politician by then promised the people of Thimmasamudram that he will look into it. From 1978-1983, He was served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Addanki Constituency, Prakasam Dist from the INC.

He joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). In 1999, He was elected to Member of Parliament (MP) to the 13th Lok Sabha of Ongole from TDP. From 1999-2000, He was the Member of the Committee on Communications.

From 2004-2009, He was Served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Addanki Constituency, Prakasam Dist from TDP.

In 2009,  He was Contested as  MLA from Addanki Constituency, Prakasam Dist from the TDP but he lost the MLA Post and was elected as MLC under the MLA quota in 2017.

In the 2019 General elections, he won as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Chirala constituency, Prakasam Dist from the TDP with a majority of 17,912 votes.
