Embracing Excellence: Mr Vital Kumar’s Journey in Sports Leadership
Since joining the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in 2003, my career has been dedicated to advancing Sports coaching and administration across various pivotal roles. Beginning as a committed coach, I have continuously strived to elevate coaching standards and foster athlete development. From my initial years i.e. from 2003 to 2005, I rendered my services on voluntary basis (free service). I rendered my services on daily wages basis for one year i.e. from 2005 – 2006, from 2006 – 2014 as a contractual employee, where I focused on refining coaching methodologies and implementing effective training programs, to achieving regularized status in 2014 (I stood top 4, in the examination conducted by NTA ), I have remained resolute in enhancing India’s sports landscape. My roles within SAI, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Government of India have provided platforms to influence National Sports policies and initiatives, amplifying athlete opportunities to excel.
During my tenure as Development Officer at SAI’s New Delhi headquarters for the 2020 London Olympics, I played a pivotal role in preparing our Rowing athletes for global competition. Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, my coaching training journeys to Kerala, Delhi, and Pune underscored the resilience required to navigate adversity. Each instance demanded adaptation to stringent health protocols while maintaining the integrity of coaching sessions. These experiences have fortified my belief in the transformative power of sports, reinforcing my commitment to nurturing talent and promoting a culture of excellence.
Beyond administrative responsibilities, my leadership role as the administration Incharge of SAI Training Centre, Pondicherry exemplifies my dedication to ensuring efficient Sports Authority operations. Responsible for overseeing administrative functions, I have prioritized organizational efficiency and resource management. Simultaneously, my role as a Group A Officer (Coach) in SAI has enabled me to directly impact athlete performance through tailored coaching strategies and developmental programs. This dual role emphasizes my comprehensive approach to sports administration and coaching, where I strive to maximize athlete potential and uphold -coaching excellence.
(During my service at SAI Training Centre Pondicherry, I was also looking after the Pondicherry Badminton Association as Interim Administrator. Conducted many state level Badminton competitions and won many National Medals too)
My recognition as Sports Person through prestigious Gold Medal in the Open Martialart Competition in 1998, at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, received Gold Medal from them Hon’ble Tourism Minister Sri. OMAL APANG, and the Best Coach Award from the District Collector of Kurnool in 2009, reflects my commitment to advancing sports coaching. These accolades underscore my contributions to fostering athletic talent and promoting sports within local communities and beyond. As I continue my journey in sports leadership, I remain dedicated to driving impactful change, inspiring athletes, and shaping India’s sporting future through innovation, dedication, and perseverance.

Mr. Vital Kumar was born on August 15, 1976 to K.V. Rami Reddy and Koteswaramma. His mother, Koteswaramma, is a respected teacher who has dedicated her life to nurturing young minds. Her passion for education has been an inspiration to many people. His father, K.V. Rami Reddy, a true patriot, served the nation with valor in the 1962 China War and the 1965 Pakistan War. His unwavering courage and selfless service have shaped Mr.Vital Kumar’s character and instilled a deep sense of duty towards my country. His parents’ legacy motivates him to strive for excellence and make a positive impact on society.
He born in the village of Chinaganjam, situated just 20 Km away from Chiral town (Chiral town is known as Second Mumbai in cloth business. The town is also famous for its CHIRALA-PERALA movement in 1921 for Indian freedom) in the then Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. The village Chinnaganjam is famous for KABADDI game, Kabaddi is not only a game it is also a culture in this village, many Kabaddi athletes has raised to International level from this small village. This region is known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant community life, significantly shaping his early years. Growing up in such a nurturing environment, Mr. Vital Kumar imbibed strong values of community service, perseverance, and dedication, which have been the cornerstones of his personal and professional journey.

Daily Wage Work (2005 – 2006)
Following his voluntary service, from 2005 to 2006, Mr. Kumar transitioned to a daily wage worker role within the Sports Authority, earning Rs. 300 per day. In this capacity, he continued to play an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the Sports Authority. Following his impactful tenure as Development Officer, Mr Vital Kumar served as the Administration Incharge at the Pondicherry Center of the Sports Authority of India from 2022 to 2023. During his tenure as Incharge of the Pondicherry Centre, 3 Handball athletes represented India in the prestigious Asian Handball Championships, many Weightlifting athletes secured National Medals.

First Instance – Kerala, 2020
During Mr Vital Kumar got transferred to National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) Centre, Trivandrum, Kerala in the month of August 2020, the state was deeply affected by the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With stringent safety measures in place, including lockdowns and social distancing protocols, Mr Vital Kumar navigated through these complexities to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Despite the adversity, he remained steadfast in his mission to impart crucial coaching knowledge and skills, adapting his approach to meet the new challenges posed by the pandemic landscape.
Second Instance – Delhi, 2021
In 2021, during the second wave of the pandemic, Mr Vital Kumar transfeered to Delhi Headquarters for administrative work in Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) amidst a critical phase characterized by a surge in COVID-19 cases and heightened healthcare demands. Despite the challenging circumstances, Mr Vutal Kumar’s commitment to sports development remained unwavering.
Third Instance – Pune
During the third pandemic wave, Mr Vital Kumar embarked on special duty as SAI Observer for the “National Rowing Championship” in Pune, another region grappling with the resurgence of COVID-19 cases. Like many parts of the country, Pune faced significant challenges in managing the impact of the pandemic on public health and daily life. Nevertheless, Mr Vital Kumar persisted in his mission to advance sports development, ensuring that coaching sessions adhered to strict health protocols to safeguard the well-being of participants. His proactive approach and leadership were instrumental in maintaining continuity in sports training and fostering a sense of resilience among athletes in Pune.
