Dr. Pramod Sawant

Dr. Pramod Sawant is the Chief Minister of Goa. He was born on 24-04-1973 to Pandurang and Padmini Sawan in Goa. He obtained a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery degree from the Ganga Education Society’s Ayurvedic Medical College in Kolhapur and a postgraduate degree of (MSW) Master of Social Work in 2010 from the Tilak Maharashtra University at Pune. He is an Ayurveda Medical Practitioner by profession.
He Started his Political Journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). Sawant’s wife Sulakshana is a Teacher of chemistry at the Shri Shantadurga Higher Secondary School in Bicholim. She is also a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and currently the President of the Goa unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
In 2012, He was elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly(MLA) from Sanquelim, Goa. In 2014, Member of Select Committee on–The Goa School Education (Amendment) Bill and Member of Committee on Petitions from 2014 to 2016.
He was elected as the Speaker of the Seventh Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa and Later he became the Chairman of the Business Advisory Committee. He was the Chairman of the Rules Committee. Pramod Sawant took the oath as the new chief minister of Goa on 19th March 2019. Sawant succeeds in Manohar Parrikar who died on March 17th after battling pancreatic cancer for a year.
