Luxettipet has 46,755 residents and holds a special place in Dr. Raghunandan’s heart as he studied there and established a branch of his eye hospital. The population mix in the Mancherial Constituency is diverse. Backward Classes (B.Cs) comprise the largest group at 67.81%, approximately 1,87,453 people. In the border areas of Karimnagar district in Adilabad, construction of the Sripada Yellampalli Sagar project on the Godavari River has been met with opposition from farmers and farm labourers residing in Namnur, Gudipet, and Chandanapur villages of Mancherial Mandal. These villages in the Adilabad district face potential threats due to the Yellampalli project. The villagers determined to seek justice, blocked project work and later confronted the project office staff after a prolonged wait for authorities.

During the protest, the police intervened when residents attempted to halt the water supply pumps at the project site. Dr. Vijay Raghunandan, representing the affected villagers, expressed frustration with the authorities handling of compensation issues and announced the villagers’ intention to stage a day-long sit-in protest at the project site and argued to have an immediate visit by a three-member committee to assess the villages at risk due to the Yellampalli project. He emphasized the urgent need for compensation for those facing displacement. Concerns were also raised regarding partial compensation for villages like Gullakota, Nambal, Suraram, and Karnamamidi, which are partially affected, and the demand for total compensation and rehabilitation. He demanded that earth dams in the threatened villages not be removed without proper compensation and called for the immediate formation of a three-member committee. If their demands were not met, they indicated their intention to initiate further protest actions in the days ahead. The villagers of Gullakota, facing threats, alleged that confident leaders were obstructing the tripartite committee from disbursing compensation.
