Salutations to all who value dignity, service, and enlightened leadership. I am Matta Sailaja, born on 25 June 1970 in Narsapuram, a place that shaped my formative years and instilled in me a deep respect for culture, discipline, and public responsibility. where my formative years were enriched by the sagacious guidance of my parents, Late Shri Sarella Ganga Chalam, a highly respected Executive Engineer in the Irrigation Department, whose professional life stood as a testament to technical excellence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service. His exemplary career continues to inspire my values and approach to leadership. I am equally guided by my mother, Smt. Sarella Vijaya Susheela, a retired government employee, has profoundly influenced my sense of duty toward society.

My academic journey was shaped by a disciplined pursuit of knowledge and intellectual refinement. I earned my Bachelor of Commerce from the esteemed Women’s College, Rajahmundry, where I developed a strong grounding in economics, administration, and public finance. This period of scholarly engagement sharpened my analytical perspective and cultivated a deep appreciation for structured governance, ethical leadership, and informed decision-making—principles that have continued to guide my public life.

Beyond formal education, my commitment to societal advancement found purposeful expression through the establishment of the Matta Sailajaravikumar Trust, an institution founded on the ideals of compassion, service, and inclusive progress. Through the Trust, I have consistently worked to address pressing social needs, extending support in the domains of education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, and humanitarian relief.

My political journey began in 2001 with the Indian National Congress, when I was elected as a Member of the Mandal Praja Parishad (MPTC), marking my entry into grassroots governance. In 2004, I was entrusted with the responsibility of Mandal Parishad President (MPP), followed by my appointment as ATMA Chairperson in 2006, where I worked closely with agricultural communities to strengthen institutional support systems. In 2011, I joined the YSR Congress Party as its First Co-Coordinator, contributing to its organisational consolidation during a formative phase. This journey of service culminated in 2021 with my election as ZPTC, Razole, a mandate that reaffirmed public trust and reinforced my resolve to serve with integrity, inclusivity, and unwavering dedication to democratic values.

She is the daughter of Late Shri Sarella Ganga Chalam, a respected public servant whose life exemplified discipline, professional integrity, and unwavering commitment to the common good, and Smt. Smt. Matta Sailaja completed her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Schade Girls High School, Rajahmundry, establishing a strong academic foundation during her formative years. She pursued her Intermediate education at Women’s College, Rajahmundry, where she further honed her intellectual abilities and prepared for higher studies.

She earned her Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree from Women’s Degree College, Rajahmundry, affiliated with Andhra University, graduating with distinction and demonstrating consistent academic excellence.

Smt. Matta Sailaja commenced her formal political journey in 2001 with her election as a Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) member. In 2004, Smt. Matta Shailaja took the oath of office as Mandal Parishad President (MPP) under the leadership of prominent leaders MLA Shri Alluri Krishnam Raju and Smt. MLA Pamula Rajeswari, ZPTC member Shri Chelluboyina Srinivas, and Shri Venugopal and Shri Krishna. The event, held under their collective guidance and patronage, marked a significant milestone in her political career, symbolizing the trust reposed in her by senior party figures and the community.

In 2005, during her tenure as Mandal Parishad President (MPP) in East Godavari District, Smt. Matta Shailaja achieved a remarkable milestone by transforming Razole Mandal into a child labor-free zone. Her dedicated efforts earned the mandal the top district-level award among 60 mandals, recognising outstanding performance in eliminating child labour and promoting education.

 Smt. Shailaja received this prestigious honour from the District Collector, Shri Jawahar Reddy, marking a historic moment as the first MPP from Razole Mandal to be conferred such recognition. This accolade underscored her visionary leadership and resolute commitment to child welfare and social reform at the grassroots level.

Smt. Sailaja’ s appointment as Chairperson of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in 2006 marked a significant chapter in her career. Recognizing her seasoned experience, steadfast integrity, and unwavering dedication to public service, she was entrusted with the role of first Co-Coordinator of the YSRCP, where she played an instrumental role in shaping the party’s organizational framework and mobilizing support across Andhra Pradesh.

Bringing decades of political acumen, deep-rooted grassroots engagement, and a resolute focus on social welfare, Smt. In 2021, Smt. Matta Sailaja reaffirmed her enduring commitment to grassroots governance by assuming the office of Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) representative for Razole under the YSR Congress Party. In this role, she has continued to prioritize the welfare of her constituents, spearheading comprehensive initiatives in education, healthcare, and socio-economic development, thereby enhancing the quality of life within her jurisdiction.

During the tenure of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Smt. Matta Shailaja worked with resolute zeal for the Indian National Congress and the welfare of the people. Following the tragic and untimely demise of Shri Rajasekhara Reddy, she remained steadfast in strengthening the party and addressing public grievances.

When Shri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of the late leader, founded the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to carry forward his father’s legacy of people-centric governance, Smt. Matta Shailaja became one of the first women to join the newly formed party, demonstrating her profound trust in his vision and commitment to continuing uninterrupted service to the people.

Since that historic moment, she has remained an unwavering pillar of the YSRCP, never wavering in her allegiance despite political challenges.   During her tenure as Mandal Parishad President (MPP) in Razole Constituency in 2006, Smt. Matta Shailaja led a compassionate initiative under which blankets were distributed to children with hearing and speech impairments. This thoughtful program aimed to provide comfort and support to the most vulnerable young individuals in the mandal, reflecting her deep commitment to inclusive welfare and social care.
• Participation in Praja Sankalpa Padayatra
  Smt. Matta Shailaja joined the historic Praja Sankalpa Padayatra led by Shri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy garu, actively participating in the programme held in Ramachandrapuram. She marched alongside senior leaders, engaging directly with the public to understand their concerns and convey the party’s commitment to people-centric development and social justice. Her presence during this significant people’s march highlighted her alignment with the party’s vision and her dedication to grassroots outreach and public service.
• Engagement in ICDS Child Protection Programme (2006)
  In the same year, while serving as MPP in Razole Constituency, Smt. Matta Shailaja actively participated in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) child protection programme. Her involvement helped strengthen efforts to safeguard and nurture children’s well-being, ensuring the successful implementation of government initiatives focused on early childhood care and protection.
• Land Donations – Building Foundations for Health and Community
  Smt. Matta Sailaja has demonstrated remarkable foresight and civic commitment through her generous land donations. She provided land for the Jagananna Village Health Clinic in Chennadam Village, ensuring that residents have access to  essential medical services. In addition, she donated land for the construction of a church in Chennadam Village, fostering communal harmony and supporting the spiritual needs of her community.
