I am Vasamsetti Markandeya, a social activist dedicated to the welfare and dignity of working communities in Telangana. Born and raised in Bellampally, I learned from an early age that service to people is the true path to meaningful leadership. My journey began as an employee in Singareni, where I witnessed the struggles and aspirations of labourers and their families. These experiences inspired me to stand firmly for the rights, welfare, and social justice of workers and marginalized communities.
Through my responsibilities in the Singareni Coal Mine Labourers Union, I have continuously worked to strengthen unity and uplift the lives of mine workers. My commitment extends beyond labour rights to supporting education, social equality, and opportunities for underprivileged youth. With a strong belief in democratic values, I actively participate in public life to ensure that the voices of ordinary people are heard. I have dedicated my efforts to promoting welfare schemes, social awareness, and community development initiatives.
Guided by the principles of integrity, discipline, and compassion, I strive to serve society with sincerity and responsibility.
My mission is simple yet powerful: to stand with the people, work for their progress, and build a more just and empowered society.
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION:
Vasamsetti Markandeya was born on 12 February 1973 to Mr. Vasamsetti Krishnamurthy and Mrs. Vasamsetti Suryakantham, and was brought up in Bellampally, Mancherial district, in the state of Telangana, India. He completed his Secondary Board of Education in 1988 from Zilla Parishad High School, Jammikunta. Driven by a strong commitment to learning, he later pursued higher education at Adarsh Degree College, Jammikunta. There, he completed his graduation, laying a strong academic foundation for his future career and social service.
CAREER IN PROFESSION:
In 1991, Markandeya joined Singareni and was employed as a professional person, enabling him to take on his parental responsibilities at a young age while continuing his education and performing his commitments as a political leader on the one hand and the other.
For his determination, he was promoted in the Singanerni Coal Mine Labourers Union by increasing his responsibility and continuing his service, thinking for the welfare of the people for the moment and dealing with the activities for the development of Society.
In 2018, Markandeya was appointed as the Central Council Member of SCMLU to serve the people in all ways by leading them when they were in difficulty. His pure sense of humour turned him into a great man with humanity.
Markandeya was designated as the Coordinator of SCMLU in 2019 to serve the people in all ways by working all the time for the welfare of humankind comprehensively by citing the code of conduct and disciplinary issues till today.
Activities Performed:
- Markandeya has been struggling hard for the rights and reservations of the Singareni People to grant them loans, pensions, and other schemes that benefit their lives.

- Vegetables, food, and other vital commodities were handed to the needy inhabitants of Singareni on behalf of the Union.
- He fought hard for Higher education to be equally accessible to students from all backgrounds, including SC, ST, BC, minority, and lower-caste students.
- Markandeya fought over every issue related to SC, the ST community regarding land issues, and other cases. He solved many land issues with the assistance of higher officials.
- There have been unrelenting efforts to regulate their welfare in pursuing people’s concerns, particularly those affecting SC, ST, and BC categories.
CAREER IN POLITICS:
In 2019, Vasamsetti Markandeya formally entered active politics by joining the Indian National Congress (INC), one of India’s oldest and most influential political parties, originally founded by Dadabhai Naoroji and presently guided by the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. His decision to align with the Congress Party was driven by a sincere desire to address the political needs of the people and to contribute meaningfully to democratic governance through dedicated public service.
Since becoming a member of the INC, Markandeya has consistently represented the party with integrity, commitment, and responsibility. He has actively worked to strengthen the party’s presence at the grassroots level while striving to bring positive change to society. By faithfully adhering to the party’s principles, policies, and democratic values, he has played an important role in promoting social welfare and community development.
Through his persistent efforts and active participation in party activities, Markandeya has focused on addressing the concerns of workers, marginalized communities, and the general public. His leadership and dedication have helped him build strong connections with the people, enabling him to serve as a reliable voice for their aspirations and grievances.
Recognizing his unwavering commitment to public welfare and labour rights, Markandeya has been serving as an INTUC Leader representing the Indian National Congress. In this role, he continues to work tirelessly to resolve the issues faced by workers and common citizens, striving to eliminate hardships and ensure better opportunities, dignity, and social justice for all sections of society.
Party and Social Activities:
- During the elections, he actively participated in the Door-to-Door election campaign and worked hard to bring more voters to win the party in his locality.
- He has constantly been fighting against anti-people decisions of the central and state governments and has staged many protests and dharnas.
- Markandeya is in complete opposition to the state government repealing new agricultural laws and other beneficial elements that will serve the survival of farmers.
- He was briefing the people on the welfare schemes introduced by the government for the upliftment of the backward classes through a mobilization Program.
- Markandeya was actively involved in various social service activities and worked hard to take multiple schemes of the State and Central Government into the public and assisted them to benefit.
- Every year, Markandeya and his family’s birthday celebrations were held at the orphanage, followed by a charity event.
- He taught driving to students who did not continue their education beyond the tenth grade and supplied them with employment and a means of subsisting after graduating from high school.
Services rendered during the pandemic:
- Markandeya sneaked forward to assist people affected by the lockdown by giving vegetables and fruits to villages, the homeless, and Municipality employees while following the procedures.
- He helped the poor by distributing items such as masks, hand sanitisers, food, and monetary assistance.
- An awareness demonstration was performed to raise awareness about social distancing and the need to take precautionary steps to eliminate the COVID-19 epidemic.
- When the coronavirus was finally eradicated, sodium hypochlorite solution was sprayed across the whole village to ensure that the villagers were not exposed to any harmful effects.
- News reporters and police officers were honoured and given shawls by Markandeya as a token of appreciation for their efforts in keeping the great news rolling while not jeopardizing their lives throughout the epidemic and lockdown.
- The COVID-19 immunization drive was organized in response to Prime Minister Modi’s plea to increase awareness among the general population about the need to acquire a free COVID-19 vaccination.
- During the pandemic, a door-to-door survey was organized to raise awareness about the COVID-19 virus and provide precautions to be followed.
Awards and Recognition:
With the Inspiration and under the guidance of his trainers, Kaladhar Raju and Devender, Markandeya was honored with a Gold Medal for being recognized as a Senior Sportsman.
